AMERICAN OPTICAL Browline sunglasses, USA, 1950s

 

Browline glasses were invented and first manufactured by the American company Shuron in 1947. They combined the bold look of horn rims with the strength and stability of metal frames and became the defining eyewear style in 1950s America.

This classic pair by American Optical features brown acetate and white metal frames with flexible temples, strong seven barrel hinges and the iconic AO logo to the front corners. The frames have been thoroughly cleaned and polished and are in very good to excellent vintage condition; the smoke-grey lenses are new Lens size 46 x 39mm; hinge to hinge 125mm UV-protective acrylic replacements.
