EKCO model AD75 valve radio, 1940

Between 1934 and 1945, the company established by Eric Kirkham Cole in Southend produced a series of 5 now famous radio sets, designed by architect Wells Coates.

This was the fourth - the AD75. Introduced after the outbreak of war, its reduced size was in line with the need to preserve materials for the war effort. At 7 guineas it was also much cheaper, (around £320 today based on RPI). This example in brown bakelite is in excellent and untouched original condition.

While vintage valve radios often do work, they are potentially dangerous. They can be refurbished for use, but this is a specialist area and beyond our capabilities. We therefore sell them as rare and valuable collectables.

Diameter 365mm; depth (excluding knobs) 165mm
