ENFIELD bakelite cased 8 day time-only mantel clock, late 1940s

This is the defining bakelite cased mantel clock, introduced by Smiths Enfield in 1948. The design is simple and elegant with no unnecessary embellishment - typical of the restrained British approach to late Art Deco. This example bears the Enfield name only and therefore dates to 1948 or 1949.

The clock features a silvered dial with black steel hands set behind a domed glass and hinged chromed bezel. The case is moulded from mottled dark brown bakelite case. It has a spring driven, front winding, 8-day movement, regulated by a pendulum.

The clock has been fully disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and serviced and the case has been polished. There are a few marks to the dial around the winding hole, but these are only visible on close inspection. It is supplied in excellent overall condition and full working order with instructions on setting up and regulating and guidance on aftercare.
