Medium-sized wooden cased perpetual desk calendar, circa 1950

The classic 'linen roller' perpetual desk calendars are notable for their simple Modernist design and distinctive Gill Sans typeface. They were manufactured in three sizes (5.5, 7.5 and 9 inches high) and were in common use throughout the 1940s and 1950s.

This is a fine example of the medium (7.5 inch) calendar. The case is made from wood and plywood (a mixture of oak and mahogany) with a golden honey finish. The knobs are chromed and knurled and the linen date roll and day/month rollers are protected by the original celluloid window.

The calendar has been disassembled, cleaned and polished and apart from a few minor marks it is in excellent overall vintage condition.
