PHILIPS 'Physical Challenge' 12 inch terrestrial globe, 1967

This is a relatively recent table globe from the British company Philips, dated 1967. It is notable for the bright yet subtle colouration of the physical mapping, which is complemented perfectly by the gold and mahogany of the mount.

The globe is constructed from two pasteboard hemispheres with composite paper gores, joined at the equator. It is mounted on a die-cast meridian with a bright gold finish and a solid mahogany base, with a time dial at the North Pole.

The map retains full colour and has minimal marking. The base and meridian are equally well preserved. It has been carefully cleaned and polished and is in excellent overall condition.

Diameter 12 inches (305mm); overall height 400mm
