SMITH (SMITHS) SECTRIC bakelite cased electric wall clock with 8 inch dial, 1946

This less common variant of the 8 inch dial clock features a finely moulded octagonal bakelite case rather than the plain round "jelly mould" shape. Polygonal cases were often to be found on GPO specification clocks.

This example, dated September 1946, features the sought after smooth-sweeping red second hand. The painted steel dial has aged to a soft tobacco colour and shows slight foxing, visible only on close inspection. The clock runs on mains electricity and is driven by the reliable 'Bijou' synchronous motor. It keeps perfect time because it is synchronized to the frequency of the electricity supply.

The clock has been sensitively restored and is in very good to excellent overall condition. It is supplied in full working order with instructions and guidance on aftercare.

Visible dial diameter 8 inches (200mm); overall width 305mm; depth 75mm. Weight 1.6kg
