SMITHS bakelite cased 8 day wall clock with 12 inch dial, 1954

This is the rarely found larger (12 inch dial) version of the iconic Smiths 9 inch dial clock. Their rarity is compounded by the fact that most were fitted with thin steel dials that were prone to rust, so few have survived in good order.

This example, dated January 1954, has an aluminium dial, which accounts for its fine state of preservation. The clock is powered by the well proven Smiths 8 day 2 inch movement with platform escapement and will run for over a week on a full wind.

The clock has been sensitively refurbished and is in very good to excellent condition. There is some slight foxing towards the bottom of the dial, shown in the last photo, but this has been lightly restored and is barely visible from a normal viewing distance. The clock is supplied in full working order with instructions and guidance on aftercare.

Dial diameter 12 inches (305mm); overall diameter 370mm; depth 78mm. Weight 1.8kg
