SMITHS SECTRIC bakelite cased electric wall clock with 9 inch dial, 1953

The design of this clock dates to the mid-1940s. It was once a familiar sight in schools, hospitals, factories, stations and offices across the UK and Commonwealth.

This is a very good example, dated September 1953. It features the sought after smooth-sweeping red second hand. The painted steel dial is in unusually good condition (they were prone to rusting). The clock runs on mains electricity and is driven by the reliable 'Bijou' synchronous motor. It keeps perfect time because it is synchronized to the frequency of the electricity supply.

The clock has been sensitively restored and is in excellent overall condition. The original hanging instructions are still fixed to the rear of the dial. It is supplied in full working order with instructions and guidance on aftercare.

Dial diameter 9 inches (230mm); overall diameter 295mm; depth 78mm. Weight 1.4kg
